Windows Live is the collective brand name for a set of services and software products from Microsoft, part of their software plus services platform.
A majority of these services are Web applications, accessible from a browser, (but there are also client-side binary applications that require installation). There are three ways in which Windows Live services are offered: Windows Live Essentials applications, web services, and mobile services.

Elle désigne l'ensemble des services disponibles directement sur Internet (ou via des logiciels).
Le plus souvent, ces services sont accessibles grâce à un navigateur Web (compatible Asynchronous JavaScript and XML).
Ils permettent de manipuler différents type de données (cartographique, bureautique, personnelles) après authentification de l'utilisateur du service. Ces données sont enregistrées sur un serveur distant plutôt que sur une machine locale.
Microsoft comme Google, notamment, croient que ce type de logiciels représentent l'avenir de l'informatique, car les services et les données de l'utilisateur sont disponibles partout, sans avoir à installer aucune application et sont par conséquent plus rapides à consulter.
Microsoft a décidé de mettre à jour annuellement ses logiciels Live grand public comme Windows Live Messenger ou Windows Live Mail, cette mise à jour s'effectue vers la fin de l'année. Ex : Windows Live Messenger 2008 (en novembre 2007). L'année remplace publiquement le nº de version du logiciel pour permettre aux utilisateurs de s'y retrouver plus facilement.

puis on a accès à word, excel, powerpoint, oneNote avec skyDrive (un disque virtuel de 25Go).
SkyDrive est:
- Un large espace de stockage : 25 Go qui vous permettent de partager ou sauvegarder en toute sécurité tout ce qui a de l'importance à vos yeux. Un peu comme un disque dur gratuit en ligne.
- Protection par mot de passe : C'est vous qui définissez les mots de passe et attribuez les autorisations de consultation. Ainsi, vos données sont totalement contrôlées.
- Dossiers partagés : Vous travaillez sur un projet avec des amis, des collègues ou votre famille ? Les dossiers partagés permettent à ces personnes de télécharger et de collaborer avec vous sur les documents et d'autres fichiers.
Les applications wordLive excel-Live powerpoint-Live et oneNote_live sont assez décevantes. Ainsi par exemple il n'y a pas de fonction chercher/remplacer!
La fonction "favoris" est très lourde...
Les 25Go ne sont que pour sauvegarder ces fichiers, des favoris des photo.
Pour les photo:
La capacité de téléchargement est limitée à 50 Mo par fichier.
On peut enregistrer en format original.
